Current Obsessions #6

I realize this list makes me seem like I only stay inside my apartment to watch my tv, eat and drink a lot. Please don’t judge…

It’s HOT out, y’all!

1.) Awkward.

MTV aired a marathon of the first season last summer, and I quickly got hooked into the life of Jenna Hamilton and the antics of high school life. Look past the fact that it is on MTV, and just pay attention to the snappy dialogue and relatable situations (well, minus the fact that two super cute guys are in love with our heroine)

2.) Newman’s Salsa

Nothing screams summer like a beer, chips, and fresh salsa. However, making fresh salsa takes SO LONG with all of the chopping, mincing, etc.

I grabbed the Newman’s salsa at Cub the other week, and now I’ve tried a couple of the fruit based ones. Now I’m in love! I recommend the Mango, but a close runner up is the Peach.

3.) Skinnygirl Sangria

I had tried the Skinnygirl Margarita when it first came out, and I wasn’t too impressed (it was wayyyyy too sweet). The sangria was on sale at the liquor store. It was quite refreshing, and it works for a light summer drink! Next on my list to try is the White Peach Margarita and the wines.

4.) 21 Jump Street

Hilarious. Just absolutely hilarious!

I wasn’t expecting this movie to be as funny as it was but Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have great chemistry. I could post a bunch of youtube clips with highlights. It would ruin it though so just go watch the movie instead. (it’s on Redbox folks!)

Minneapolis Color Run

We decided to do The Color Run when it came to Minneapolis! We woke up bright and early, heading to the State Fairgrounds.

We started out so clean!

After waiting a while for the crowds to go through (there were a TON of people), we started running.

PROS:

1) It really is a FUN RUN! Everyone was having a great time! The race wasn’t timed so no one was crazy serious.

2) Getting sprayed with color was fun!

3) Did I mention how much fun I had?? It seriously was one of the funnest races I’ve done. Especially because of the pictures after

CONS:

1) It was quite hot, but that’s normal weather for Minnesota in the summer.

2) There were a lot of walkers, which is totally fine, but we wanted to run the whole thing so it was a little difficult getting through the people. I wouldn’t recommend doing this race for the first “serious” race if you are starting to run and want to know how well you did.

Overall, I recommend doing this race if you want to go do a fun 5K with a lot of fun people!

I leave you now with a bunch of colorful pictures!

HAPPY RUNNING!

Summer of Salads

I love salads year round, but I think it is easier to make them in the summer because 1) they are light yet filing, 2) fresh produce makes them even better, and 3) they are full of good nutrients that are necessary for all of my busy summer activities.

Here’s some good ones to make:

Asian Salad: Romaine lettuce, chicken with satay sauce, mandarin oranges, cabbage, cucumbers, wontons, and Kraft’s Toasted Sesame Dressing

Berry salad: Arugula lettuce, pears, blueberries, GOAT CHEESE, dressing: 2 parts balsamic vinegar, 2 parts olive oil, 1 part honey.(I have added strawberries to this instead of blueberries, but really just go with whatever you have on hand)

This isn’t your typical salad, but it tastes like summer, and you might get weird looks, but this is SO SO GOOD. Cantaloupe, avocado, prosciutto salad with a sprinkle of salt and parsley. (add cashews too if you have them on hand)

Finally, a copycat salad I made with inspiration from the BBQ Chicken Salad at Panera Bread. They really have the best salads around!

BBQ Chicken Salad: romaine lettuce, chicken mixed with a touch of bbq sauce, corn, black beans, wonton strips, cubes of cheese, and a dressing that I mixed together with some Miracle Whip, honey bbq sauce, salt, pepper, touch of ranch. (you really don’t need a lot of dressing for this one; all of the other stuff makes up for it!)

Overall, just enjoy some salads because then you can enjoy more beer and ice cream because those are two things summer is really about!

Summer 2012

I have been a non-existent blogger for a while because I was on vacation! I will post pictures from that later, but in the mean time, here’s the cool stuff that I am looking forward to this summer:

1.) Weddings

I have 4 to go to this summer/fall and I am way pumped! It kicks off next Friday, and I’m excited to see some cool people tie the knot, hang out with my awesome friends, and dance it up!

2.) The Olympics

Even though I’m a Minnesotan now and supposed to like cold stuff, I prefer the Summer Olympics. I’ve already planned out to watch Michael Phelps compete in his final games, and plus, I love to watch the indoor and sand volleyball. I think our TV will just be set to NBC!

I guess London got in on the neon trend…

3.) The Color Run

I’m way pumped to run this 5k with two cool kids I know!  I plan on getting as much color as I can. I hope to look like a weird tropical bird when I am done!

I hope to look similar to this

4.) Minnesota Bucket List

I have to fulfill some of the cool stuff on my bucket list too:

-Minnesota Brewery tours: they are free and should be checked out! Nothing says summer like a coold beer!

-Eat at the 5-8 Club and Matt’s Bar to try their Jucy Lucy (Juicy Lucy)

-Go to at least 4 more Twins games (I have to beat my record from last year!)

5.) Lady Speed Stick Half-Marathon

This is the major thing coming up this summer. The longest race I’ve ever run was The Bix last summer, but I decided this would be a great goal! Wish me luck as I train through this humid Minnesota summer.

This will probably be what I look like on August 26th after I’m done

I leave you with will probably be the song of the summer, “Call Me Maybe” (and yes, it’s been stuck in my head all week) I hope you appreciate this version by Jimmy Fallon and the Roots done with kids instruments:

The Time I Sang “Take Me out the Ballgame” at a Twins game

The title pretty much gives away the premise of this story, but really, isn’t it more about the journey?

One of my friends parents called me and the roomie last Friday asking if we wanted to go to the Twins game on Monday. DUH! We love baseball (even though let’s not talk about the Twins current record…PITCHING. They’re killing me, Smalls! I digress…)

We got to Target Field, and we were blown away with what great seats we had! I hadn’t ever sat on this side of the field, and it was awesome!

The view from my seat!

One of the Indians hit a home run that night, and if we weren’t paying attention, I probably would have gotten hit in the head ala Drew Barrymore in Fever Pitch.

The creepy picture of Mastroianni I sent to my friend to show her where my seats were (and then we made inappropriate comments about his “seats”)

It was a GORGEOUS evening (75 degrees, 30% humidity), and we found out via facebook that a TON of our friends were there. In fact, we got up around the middle of the 5th inning because I wanted one of those helmets filled with ice cream, and we ran into these kids:

Skycam!

After I got my helmet, we headed back to our seats, and I hear this guy talking to a group of girls, and a bunch of other little kids. I overheard him say, “you get a free hat!” and immediately, my ears perked up. I LOVE free stuff! I asked him what was going on, and he said something about getting this group to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” (because they sing it in the 7th inning…for all you that didn’t know, but a little SHAME).

I then proceeded to weasel my way over, and asked, “OOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I WANT A FREE HAT!!! CAN I SING? CAN I SING?”

I’m sure he just wanted me to leave him alone so he said sure, and then I said, “Oh!!! Can my friend come?!” as my roommate stood behind me, I’m sure wondering what the heck I was getting us into. This lead to us standing with a group of small kids, and me being giddy, then frightened as TC (the Twins mascot) came creeping up behind us! We took a picture with him, naturally:

Check out those free hats!

The guy in charge then came over with about five cameras and told us to be ready to sing. He was offering up two microphones, and of course, I jumped at the chance to take one. We then headed back to our seats, and immediately started getting questioned by our seat companions and getting texts and voicemails to the extent of “HOLY CRAP!” because we were literally on the JumboTron in front of thousands of people. The best part was that all of our friends were there, and were witness to the extent I will go to be on tv.

We found out that my friends’ mom had her camera out and took pictures of us singing! Therefore, none of these pictures are mine, and I have to give credit to her for taking pictures of myself being a big ole ham! And now I leave you with proof of my Monday night 15 minutes of fame:

notice my roomie texting

1, 2, 3 strikes your out!
I have the microphone in the wrong hand, but I was saving my ice cream. PRIORITIES PEOPLE!
